Media Advisory: Briefing on Groundwater

Media Advisory: Briefing on Groundwater

USGS will brief Congress, the media and the public on why groundwater is a critical resource for the Nation, and how USGS is working with partners to assess, monitor and quantify the availability and sustainability of the Nation’s groundwater resources.

Why: Groundwater is the source of drinking water for nearly 50% of the U.S. population. Increased use of groundwater resources for domestic, agricultural, industrial, and environmental needs has led to uncertainty concerning the ability of systems to meet current and future demands.

Who: Bill Cunningham, Acting Chief, Office of Groundwater, U.S. Geological Survey
Kevin Rein, Deputy State Engineer, Colorado Division of Water Resources
Robert Schreiber, Vice President at CDM Smith, representing American Society of Civil Engineers
Christine Reimer (emcee), Government Affairs Director, National Ground Water Association

Where: 1334 Longworth House Office Building, Washington, D.C.

When: Friday, July 27, 2012, 10:00 a.m.

Sponsors: Rep. Doug Lamborn, R-Colo.
Rep. Betty McCollum, D-Minn

A repeat of this briefing will be held at 2 p.m. in Dirksen 366. Both briefings are free and open to the public.  No RSVP required. Morning refreshments will be provided courtesy of National Ground Water Association.
